Klein ISD faculty, staff, parents, and students have web-based access from any district workstation and at home to the following library information resources. |

· CARLweb, a web-based catalog of the district’s library books, uses a search format designed for adults and students in Grades 9— 12.
Searches for library books may be made by an individual campus database, by a group of 2 — 6 campus databases, or by a union catalog of 34 campus databases and the district’s Professional Library. Students and staff may request inter-library loan by contacting the library staff at the campus where they are employed or enrolled.

· Kid’s Cat WEB, a web-based catalog of all library books cataloged for students to age 14, uses three search formats for Grades K — 8.
Find It, Grades K —2 , is recommended for beginning readers learning to keyboard and assisted by a parent or teacher.
Explore, Grades 3 — 5, is recommended for students whose expanding vocabulary and typing skills enable them to locate information using icons for subject searches.
Type Search, Grades 6 — 8, is recommended for students whose developing information literacy skills enable them to type and create searches by title, author, or subject with the assistance of a spell-check feature.
Educationally and developmentally appropriate related web page links in Explore and Find It provide staff and students additional information resources for subjects searched.

· EBSCO resources provide more than 30 licensed, web-based databases that include full-text articles from magazines, newspapers, and encyclopedias for student use in Grades K—12. Information includes current events, science, history, the arts, sports, and biographies.
Searchasaurus> is recommended for grades K — 3.
Kid’s Search is recommended for grades K — 8.
For high school students, additional resources include a literary reference center, a history reference center, and 3,600 full-text books.
Copies of all articles may be e-mailed to personal e-mail addresses and may be used as cited in student work.
Students and staff may obtain the campus’ EBSCO user name and password from library staff.

· ABC-CLIO resources provide 3 licensed, web-based databases: World History (1500—Modern Era), American History, and World Geography.
Resources include current information, digitized copies of primary documents such as The Declaration of Independence, streaming video of speeches, a 24/7 ask the librarian resource, and maps.
Copies of all documents and images may be e-mailed to personal e-mail addresses and may be used as cited in student work.
Students and staff may obtain the campus’ ABC-CLIO user name and password from library staff.

· Encyclopedia Britannica Online School Edition provides licensed access to both the secondary and elementary versions of the encyclopedia as well as the Compton’s by Britannica, multimedia resources, and web-sites selected by Encyclopaedia Britannica staff for student use.
Spanish versions of the Encyclopedia Brittanica databases are also licensed for student use.

· Facts on File is a licensed database for interdisciplinary studies. Three versions provide different search and information resources for elementary, intermediate, and high school students.

· NetTrekker is a licensed, search engine designed for student use with links to web sites evaluated by educators for students.
Parents may register students to obtain their personal user names and passwords.

· TeachingBooks.net provides students and teachers information and resources about authors and their works.
Streaming video from author’s web-sites allows users to see and hear authors present their works.
